ooc: [info]littlepaffs, [info]ticktabby, and [info]touchme_n_die used with love and permission. Backdated to Thursday evening. Following this.

The first date.

"What are you doing, Poodle?"

"The mighty dinosaur thunders across the mountain and eats the cherry tomato with a thunderous chomp!"

Jubilee rolled her eyes and looked across the table at where Alex was using his beautifully folded napkin to play out a scene from Jurassic Park or something. "Okay, first...we're in a really nice restaurant and people are staring! TWO, you said it was a tyrannosaur. Tyrannosaurs don't eat cherry tomatoes!"

Alex tilted his head to the side and grinned. "This is a mutant dinosaur. He loves cherry tomatoes. You know what else he loves?"

Jubilee was afraid to ask. Sighing, she shook her head and blew out a breath. "What?"

"...Pickles."

Jubilee had known it was coming, and yet... "That's even more ridiculous. Why on earth would a dinosaur love pickles? It's not like they had pickles back in the day. How would they have pickled anything? There weren't any jars, and tyrannosaurs had those tiny little arms."

Alex considered this and after a bit of maneuvering, managed to get most of his arms inside his suit jacket. Two tiny arms waved around, reaching for a fork. "I think you might be right, Pickle.

Their server came over, his eyes wide as he looked at Alex, then at Jubilee. "...How...is everything this evening?"

Smiling broadly, Alex shrugged, causing his 'tiny arms' to bounce. "Great, dude. Could you maybe bring us some more rolls or something."

Looking at the nearly full basket, the server shrugged and moved away.

"Why did you say we needed more rolls?"

Alex grinned smugly. "I'm gonna stuff some in my pockets and bring them back for Tabby and the Roguester. Nice, right? Right?"

"NO!" Jubilee lowered her voice slightly as the people in the table next to them arched their brows. "No, Poodle. We can bring them some of the fancy looking cake or something. God, you're a moron," she said, her voice fond. Tilting her head to the side suddenly, her expression shifted. "Do you think they're doing okay with Cati?"

Alex knew they were doing okay. Their friends were in a mansion filled with people who adored their daughter. He also knew Jubilee was having a hard time being away from her. Without a word, he pulled out his cell phone and placed it on the table. His dinosaur napkin pushed the phone over to her with a quiet roar. "It wouldn't hurt to check, Pickle."

Jubilee hesitated for a few seconds, then snatched up the phone and dialed the mansion. She talked to Rogue and Tabby, grinning as both women chatted animatedly over one another about how adorable the baby was. A loud coo came through over the phone, and Rogue and Tabby 'awwwed' in unison, then burst into giggles.

Feeling both relieved and sad, Jubilee said her goodbyes and hung up the phone. "They're okay." She handed the phone back to Alex, who smiled at her.

"Good. You're a great mom, you know. You're doing really great with KP."

Jubilee smiled and reached over to take a drink of her soda, which Alex had insisted they put in a champagne glass for her. "Thanks. I think I am, too. And...you're doing really good, too."

They finished their meal with a relatively small level of mini-catastrophes. Alex spilled his drink twice while waving his arms during the telling of a recent event at work, and Jubilee laughed. Alex asked the strolling violinist if he knew any Fall Out Boys songs and was met with a disturbed look. Jubilee was just happy Alex hadn't used the napkins as a hat.

After their dinner, they walked arm-in-arm toward the car, two small boxes in a bag hanging from Alex's arm.

Alex remembered to open the car door for her, and he changed the radio station for her, rolling his eyes at the music, but otherwise not complaining.

It was nice...and it was them, and all-in-all, it was the best date they'd ever had. The fact that it was their only date didn't matter.

"I want to take you out again, Pickle. I like spending time with you, you know?"

Jubilee smiled at him and nodded. "Yeah...I didn't totally hate it."

Alex beamed and drove them home, shifting in his seat. The rolls he'd stuffed in his pockets were squashed.
